About Our Company
The word “Al-Baaqi” is an Arabic word and a name of Allah. Allah is Al-Baaqi, the everlasting. He is the one whose existence doesn’t have a beginning or an end. The virtue of this name signifies Allah as being perpetual, endless, and everlasting. He will remain forever and unaffected by time.Al-Baaqi Food Bank is a community based not-for-profit organization that provides food assistance, counselling and emotional support. Al-Baaqi Food Bank is a property of Al-Baaqi Foundation Inc. which is a non-profit and charitable organization. CRA Charitable Number: 709976476 RR0001. Al-Baaqi Food Bank serves to bridge the gap between current services in Regina and the Muslim population. However, everyone is welcome, regardless of faith. We make charitable giving to help those in need, reachable and pleasing, ensuring everyone can help those in need by donating or contributing knowledge or skills.
Al-Baaqi Food Bank recognizes the challenges that our community members face in supporting themselves and helps them overcome these challenges by focusing on: Food Insecurity, Employment, Housing, Education, Skills Development and Mental Health Support. Our vision is to live in a world where humanity is driven by compassion and love, where people help each other to become self-reliant so that they can in turn help everyone in their challenges. Al-Baaqi Food Bank was started in 2020. It’s purpose was simple: to end food insecurity in Saskatchewan. To do this, ABFB does the following: Al-Baaqi Food Bank assists members of the community who are vulnerable and in need of help. We have halal foods (Vegetables, fruits, halal meat, etc.) drives that provide items for those who need it. We deliver food monthly to the doors of the needy members in the community. We are currently serving 100+ families and individuals. We serve foods to our neighbors who are Muslim and Non-Muslim. Al-Baaqi Food bank provides necessary services for the youth and the elderly in the community.
Who We Help
We distribute food and other essentials to children, seniors, families and other individuals in need. Hunger Has Many Faces Community support enables the Food Bank to serve our community people as much as we can every month. About one-quarter of our food goes to children, and one-fifth ends up in the hands of older adults. It is estimated that only 15% of our food goes to the homeless, but this is an important population for us. The majority of our food goes to low-income families and individuals who sometimes struggle to make ends meet in this expensive location that we all call home.
Our Background
Al-Baaqi Food Bank is a non-profit and charitable organization. We are currently located in Regina, Saskatchewan. The Registered Charitable Business Number is 709976476 RR0001. Al-Baaqi Food Bank runs its programs through donations of money, recycle, and food from the community. These donations come from individuals, small businesses and organizations as well as various fundraising efforts, such as our annual fundraising event or third party events run by other organizations.
Why Do You Donate?
Food is for Humanity. We give foods to the needy people only to get rewards and benefit from Allah on the day of judgement. Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala) commands in the Qur’an: Take Sadaqah (alms) from their wealth in order to purify them and sanctify them with it, and invoke Allah for them. Verily! Your invocations are a source of security for them, and Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower. (Surah At-Tawba: 9, Ayat, 103) Allah (s.w.t) says in the Quran: They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading.And they give food, inspite of their love for it (or for the love of Him), to Miskin (needy), the orphan, and the captive.(Saying): We feed you seeking Allah’s Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you. (Al-Insaan, 76: Ayat, 7-9) Allah (The Glorified and Exalted) says in the Quran: And perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and pay the poor-due (Zakat) and obey the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) that you may receive mercy (from Allah). (Surah An-Noor: 9, Ayat, 103) Narrated Ibn ‘Umar: Allah’s Apostle said: Islam is based on (the following) five (principles): To testify that none has the right to be worshiped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah’s Apostle; to offer the (compulsory congregational) prayers dutifully and perfectly; to pay Zakat (i.e. alms); to perform Hajj. (i.e. Pilgrimage to Mecca), and to observe fast during the month of Ramadan. (Sahih Bukhari, Vol.1, Book 2, No.7)
At-Tabarani relates, on the authority of ‘Ali, that the Prophet (PBUH) said: “Allah has enjoined upon rich Muslims a due to be taken from their properties corresponding to the needs of the poor among them. The poor will never suffer from starvation or lack of clothes unless the rich neglect their due. If they do, Allah will surely hold them accountable and punish them severely.” (related by At-Tabarani in Al-‘Aswat and as-Saghir)
